तद् अस्त्रं द्रोणपुत्रस्य तस्मिन् प्रतिसमस्यति ॥
अवर्धत महाराज यथाग्निर् अनिलोद्धतः ॥
विवर्धमानम् आलक्ष्य तद् अस्त्रं भीमविक्रमम् ॥
पाण्डुसैन्यम् ऋते भीमं सुमहद् भयम् आविशत् ॥
ततः शस्त्राणि ते सर्वे समुत्सृज्य महीतले ॥
अवारोहन् रथेभ्यश् च हस्त्यश्वेभ्यश् च सर्वशः ॥
tad astraṃ droṇaputrasya tasmin pratisamasyati ||
avardhata mahārāja yathāgnir aniloddhataḥ ||
vivardhamānam ālakṣya tad astraṃ bhīmavikramam ||
pāṇḍusainyam ṛte bhīmaṃ sumahad bhayam āviśat ||
tataḥ śastrāṇi te sarve samutsṛjya mahītale ||
avārohan rathebhyaś ca hastyaśvebhyaś ca sarvaśaḥ ||
That weapon of Drona's son, as he [Bhima] resisted it, grew, O great king, like fire fanned by the wind. Seeing that weapon of terrible power growing, great fear seized the army of the Pandus, except Bhima. Then, all of them, laying their weapons down on the ground, descended from their chariots, and from their elephants and horses, all of them.

Bhima's resistance only fans the weapon, as wind fans fire; and the whole army, except him, hastens to lay down its weapons. It is telling that one man's stubbornness threatens ruin for all — personal pride becomes a shared danger. The verse teaches that willfulness resisting saving wisdom endangers more than the willful one alone; and a community is saved when it submits together — yet a single unyielding person can bring disaster upon many.
