ये त्व् एतत् प्रतियोत्स्यन्ति मनसापीह के चन ॥
निहनिष्यति तान् सर्वान् रसातलगतान् अपि ॥
ते वचस् तस्य तच् छ्रुत्वा वासुदेवस्य भारत ॥
ईषुः सर्वे ऽस्त्रम् उत्स्रष्टुं मनोभिः करणेन च ॥
तत उत्स्रष्टुकामांस् तान् अस्त्राण्य् आलक्ष्य पाण्डवः ॥
भीमसेनो ऽब्रवीद् राजन्न् इदं संहर्षयन् वचः ॥
ye tv etat pratiyotsyanti manasāpīha ke cana ||
nihaniṣyati tān sarvān rasātalagatān api ||
te vacas tasya tac chrutvā vāsudevasya bhārata ||
īṣuḥ sarve 'stram utsraṣṭuṃ manobhiḥ karaṇena ca ||
tata utsraṣṭukāmāṃs tān astrāṇy ālakṣya pāṇḍavaḥ ||
bhīmaseno 'bravīd rājann idaṃ saṃharṣayan vacaḥ ||
"But whoever resists this even in thought alone — anyone at all — it will kill them all, even those who have descended into Rasatala." Having heard this word of Vasudeva's, O Bharata, all of them desired to lay down their weapons, in mind and in deed. Then, noticing them ready to lay down their weapons, the Pandava Bhimasena spoke this word, O king — a word that stirred them up rather than reassured them.

Krishna warns that even mental resistance is fatal — the weapon punishes intention itself. It is telling that salvation demands not only laying down the weapon by hand but surrendering in the heart: outward compliance alone is not enough. The verse teaches that true non-resistance is inward, not merely displayed; and one who lowers his sword while still fighting within is not saved — for the higher power reads not the gesture but the intent.
