त एवं संनिवृत्तास् तु युद्धाद् युद्धविशारदाः ॥
यथावासं ययुः सर्वे विस्मिता राजसत्तमाः ॥
वृत्तो ब्रह्मोत्तरो रङ्गः पाञ्चाली ब्राह्मणैर् वृता ॥
इति ब्रुवन्तः प्रययुर् ये तत्रासन् समागताः ॥

अनुवाद
"Thus turned back from battle, those skilled in battle, the astonished best of kings all departed to their dwellings, saying: 'The arena has turned into a triumph for the brahmins; the Panchali maiden has gone to a brahmin' — so saying, those who had gathered there departed."

Here the proud kings depart humbled and astonished. Their words are telling: "the arena has turned into a triumph for the brahmins" — the pride of the kshatriyas has yielded to what seemed brahmins, and they themselves marvel at the outcome. Here one sees how providence humbles the arrogant: an assembly of crowned heads disperses empty-handed, marveling at the strength of those who seemed humble. Thus the scripture shows the humbling of pride and the triumph of what lay hidden; and the kings depart not knowing that they had yielded to the Pandavas themselves.
