Here the heroes keep a humble custom even on the day of their triumph. It is telling that, having won an incomparable bride that very day, they still go out for alms and bring it to their elder — victory has annulled neither their humility nor their reverence for the head of the family. In this one sees that true greatness does not preen itself on good fortune: the great remain simple. So the scripture shows that even in the hour of triumph the Pandavas remain true to the order of the household, and what they have gathered is handed, as always, to Yudhishthira.
