ऋषेः तत् वचनम् श्रुत्वाṛṣeḥ tat vacanam śrutvāhaving heard that sage's word,
निशश्वास युधिष्ठिरःniśaśvāsa yudhiṣṭhiraḥYudhishthira sighed,
चिन्तयन् राजसूय-आप्तिम्cintayan rājasūya-āptimthinking of attaining the Rajasuya,
न लेभे शर्म भारतna lebhe śarma bhāratahe found no peace, O Bharata;
राज-ऋषीणाम् हि तम् श्रुत्वाrāja-ṛṣīṇām hi tam śrutvāfor having heard that greatness
महिमानम् महात्मनाम्mahimānam mahātmanāmof the great-souled royal sages,
यज्वनाम् कर्मभिः पुण्यैःyajvanām karmabhiḥ puṇyaiḥthe sacrificers, by their holy deeds

Here the holy word gives the king no rest, but gives birth to a good resolve. It is telling that what draws Yudhishthira is not power but the example of righteous predecessors: a good envy of holiness is the beginning of striving. Thus the scripture shows how counsel takes root as resolve; and further the king turns his mind to sacrifice.
