के चिद् धर्मार्थसंयुक्ताः कथास् तत्र महाव्रताः ॥
रेमिरे कथयन्तश् च सर्ववेदविदां वराः ॥
सा वेदिर् वेदसंपन्नैर् देवद्विजमहर्षिभिः ॥
आबभासे समाकीर्णा नक्षत्रैर् द्यौर् इवामला ॥
न तस्यां संनिधौ शूद्रः कश् चिद् आसीन् न चाव्रतः ॥
अन्तर्वेद्यां तदा राजन् युधिष्ठिरनिवेशने ॥

अनुवाद

Others, of great vows, the best among knowers of the Vedas, conducted and delighted in talk joined to dharma and artha. That altar, filled with gods, twice-born, and great sages full of the Vedas, shone like the pure sky filled with stars. There was no shudra near it then, O king, nor anyone without vows, in the inner chamber, in the dwelling of Yudhishthira.

भाष्य

Above the contentious debate stands another kind of conversation -- one "joined to dharma and artha" -- in which the wise "delight." It is significant that the highest joy of the knowers of the Vedas is not victory in argument but discourse on what is good. As for the ban on entry to the unconsecrated, it concerns not a person's worth but the purity of the rite: only those who had taken the vow were admitted to the very center of the sacred act, just as today the prepared alone approach certain sacraments. The verse shows that holiness requires a boundary not out of contempt for others but out of reverent care; and that the summit of learned conversation is not triumph over an opponent but shared joy in dharma.
