क्षिताव् अन्धकवृष्णीनां वंशे वंशभृतां वरः ॥
परया शुशुभे लक्ष्म्या नक्षत्राणाम् इवोडुराट् ॥
यस्य बाहुबलं सेन्द्राः सुराः सर्व उपासते ॥
सो ऽयं मानुषवन् नाम हरिर् आस्ते ऽरिमर्दनः ॥
अहो बत महद् भूतं स्वयंभूर् यद् इदं स्वयम् ॥
आदास्यति पुनः क्षत्रम् एवं बलसमन्वितम् ॥
इत्य् एतां नारदश् चिन्तां चिन्तयाम् आस धर्मवित् ॥
हरिं नारायणं ज्ञात्वा यज्ञैर् ईड्यं तम् ईश्वरम् ॥

aho bata mahad bhūtaṃ svayaṃbhūr yad idaṃ svayam ||
ādāsyati punaḥ kṣatram evaṃ balasamanvitam ||
ity etāṃ nāradaś cintāṃ cintayām āsa dharmavit ||
hariṃ nārāyaṇaṃ jñātvā yajñair īḍyaṃ tam īśvaram ||
On earth, in the lineage of the Andhakas and Vrishnis, the best of the bearers of that lineage shone with supreme beauty, as the moon shines among the stars. He whose arm's strength all the gods, together with Indra, serve -- there he is, under a name as if human, Hari dwells, crusher of foes. "Oh, truly a great wonder, that the Self-existent himself will again take up the kshatra, endowed with such power!" -- thus pondered Narada, the knower of dharma, having recognized Hari as Narayana, that Lord praised through sacrifices.

A wondrous juxtaposition: He whose arm's strength all the gods, together with Indra, serve dwells here "under a name as if human" (mānuṣavat). It is significant that this concealment of divinity beneath a human form is deliberate -- the Lord hides His greatness, appearing as one among men, approachable, near. Only to one who knows, like Narada, is it revealed who stands before him. The verse teaches the mystery of the descent: the Almighty diminishes the appearance of His power not because it lessens, but out of grace, so as to be among His own as one of them. And whoever recognizes Him through the human guise -- "the Lord praised through sacrifices" -- attains what no outward sight can give: the recognition of God in the one who seems a man.
