Dhritarashtra said: "What has Karna gained, Suta, by speaking such harsh words? Enough enmity was already sown when Krishna was brought into that assembly. Will my foolish sons even now hold back, when their elder brother and teacher does not keep them within the bounds of restraint? Even my own words go unheeded by my ill-fated son, though he sees me sightless, helpless, and powerless. His foolish counselors, Karna, the son of Subala, and the rest, only multiply his faults. Even arrows loosed carelessly by Partha, whose splendor is boundless, would burn up my sons; how much more so when driven by wrath! Arrows released by the strength of Partha's arms, flying forth from his great bow, exulting in the mantras of divine weapons, would strike down even the gods. He whose counselor, protector, and friend is Janardana, Hari, the lord of the three worlds -- what indeed remains unconquered for him? And here is another great wonder, Sanjaya: it is heard that Arjuna met Mahadeva in combat, arm to arm. Before the eyes of the whole world it was done long ago at Khandava, what Phalguna and Damodara accomplished there to help Agni. However I look at it, I see no escape for my son, together with his counselors and kinsmen, once Partha, Bhima, and Vasudeva of the Satvatas are roused to wrath."

Dhritarashtra arrives at an almost theological conclusion: where the protector is Janardana, injustice has already lost. But recognizing the truth does not free a man if it never becomes action.
