"If the fires, in whatever manner, through the wind, touch one another, one should perform the eight-potsherd ishti for the fire Shuchi. If the dakshinagni mixes with the two other fires, the eight-potsherd ishti for the fire Viti is needed. If a forest fire touches the fires kept in the house, the ishti for Shuchi should be performed. If a woman in her monthly impurity touches the agnihotra fire, the ishti for the fire Dasyumat is needed. If a living man is heard of as dead, or if cattle perish, the ishti for Abhimata should be performed. If an ailing brahmin does not offer into the fire for three nights, the ishti for Uttaragni is needed. If the darsha and paurnamasa remain established yet unperformed, the ishti for Pathikrit is needed. If the fire of childbirth touches the agnihotra fire, the ishti for Agnimat should be performed."
