अनुवाद

He is not truly a friend whose anger inspires fear, or on whom one must wait in dread. Rather, he on whom one can rely as upon a father is a true friend; other bonds called friendship are friendship in name alone. One who behaves as a friend, even though not bound by blood-kinship, is a true friend, a real refuge and protector. One whose heart is unsteady, who does not attend upon elders, or whose nature is restless, cannot keep friends. Success in one's undertakings deserts the man whose heart is unsteady, who is not master of his own mind, or who is a slave to his senses — just as swans abandon a lake whose waters have dried up. Those weak of understanding fall into sudden anger and are appeased without sufficient cause; they are like clouds, so fickle in their course. Even carnivorous birds refrain from touching the bodies of those who, having been served and benefited by friends, showed ingratitude toward them.
