अनुवाद

Vidura said: "In this connection they cite an old story — the dialogue between the son of Atri and the gods known as the Sadhyas, as we have heard it. In ancient times the gods called the Sadhyas questioned the wise and great rishi of severe vows (the son of Atri), while he wandered in the guise of a man living on charitable alms. The Sadhyas said: 'We, O great rishi, are the gods known as the Sadhyas. Looking at you, we cannot guess who you are. Yet it seems to us that you possess intelligence and self-control through your familiarity with the scriptures.' The mendicant rishi replied: 'O immortals, I have heard that, by untying every knot in the heart through tranquility, by mastering all the passions, and by following true religion, one should treat both the pleasant and the unpleasant as one treats oneself.'"
