ततो भीमो महाराज नदित्वा विपुलं स्वनम् ॥
सासिर् वेगाद् अवप्लुत्य दन्ताभ्यां वारणोत्तमम् ॥
आरुरोह ततो मध्यं नागराजस्य मारिष ॥
खड्गेन पृथुना मध्ये भानुमन्तम् अथाच्छिनत् ॥
सो ऽन्तरायुधिनं हत्वा राजपुत्रम् अरिंदमः ॥
गुरुभारसहस्कन्धे नागस्यासिम् अपातयत् ॥
छिन्नस्कन्धः स विनदन् पपात गजयूथपः ॥
आरुग्णः सिन्धुवेगेन सानुमान् इव पर्वतः ॥
ततस् तस्माद् अवप्लुत्य गजाद् भारत भारतः ॥
खड्गपाणिर् अदीनात्मा अतिष्ठद् भुवि दंशितः ॥
स चचार बहून् मार्गान् अभीतः पातयन् गजान् ॥
अग्निचक्रम् इवाविद्धं सर्वतः प्रत्यदृश्यत ॥
अश्ववृन्देषु नागेषु रथानीकेषु चाभिभूः ॥
पदातीनां च संघेषु विनिघ्नञ् शोणितोक्षितः ॥
श्येनवद् व्यचरद् भीमो रणे रिपुबलोत्कटः ॥
छिन्दंस् तेषां शरीराणि शिरांसि च महाजवः ॥
खड्गेन शितधारेण संयुगे गजयोधिनाम् ॥
पदातिर् एकः संक्रुद्धः शत्रूणां भयवर्धनः ॥
मोहयाम् आस च तदा कालान्तकयमोपमः ॥
मूढाश् च ते तम् एवाजौ विनदन्तः समाद्रवन् ॥
सासिम् उत्तमवेगेन विचरन्तं महारणे ॥
निकृत्य रथिनाम् आजौ रथेषाश् च युगानि च ॥
जघान रथिनश् चापि बलवान् अरिमर्दनः ॥
भीमसेनश् चरन् मार्गान् सुबहून् प्रत्यदृश्यत ॥
भ्रान्तम् उद्भ्रान्तम् आविद्धम् आप्लुतं प्रसृतं सृतम् ॥
संपातं समुदीर्यं च दर्शयाम् आस पाण्डवः ॥
के चिद् अग्रासिना छिन्नाः पाण्डवेन महात्मना ॥
विनेदुर् भिन्नमर्माणो निपेतुश् च गतासवः ॥
छिन्नदन्ताग्रहस्ताश् च भिन्नकुम्भास् तथापरे ॥
वियोधाः स्वान्य् अनीकानि जघ्नुर् भारत वारणाः ॥
निपेतुर् उर्व्यां च तथा विनदन्तो महारवान् ॥

khaḍgena śitadhāreṇa saṃyuge gajayodhinām ||
padātir ekaḥ saṃkruddhaḥ śatrūṇāṃ bhayavardhanaḥ ||
mohayām āsa ca tadā kālāntakayamopamaḥ ||
mūḍhāś ca te tam evājau vinadantaḥ samādravan ||
sāsim uttamavegena vicarantaṃ mahāraṇe ||
nikṛtya rathinām ājau ratheṣāś ca yugāni ca ||
jaghāna rathinaś cāpi balavān arimardanaḥ ||
bhīmasenaś caran mārgān subahūn pratyadṛśyata ||
bhrāntam udbhrāntam āviddham āplutaṃ prasṛtaṃ sṛtam ||
saṃpātaṃ samudīryaṃ ca darśayām āsa pāṇḍavaḥ ||
ke cid agrāsinā chinnāḥ pāṇḍavena mahātmanā ||
vinedur bhinnamarmāṇo nipetuś ca gatāsavaḥ ||
chinnadantāgrahastāś ca bhinnakumbhās tathāpare ||
viyodhāḥ svāny anīkāni jaghnur bhārata vāraṇāḥ ||
nipetur urvyāṃ ca tathā vinadanto mahāravān ||

अनुवाद

Then Bhima, O great king, letting out a mighty roar, sword in hand, leapt swiftly between the tusks of the finest elephant and climbed to the middle of that king of elephants, O worthy one. With his broad sword he cut Bhanumant in two at the middle. Having slain the warrior within, the slayer of foes, the king's son, brought his sword down upon the elephant's back, which bore so great a weight. The elephant-chief, its back cut through, bellowed and fell like a peaked mountain broken by the force of a torrent. Then leaping down from the elephant, O Bharata, the Bharata stood on the ground in armor, sword in hand, his spirit unbroken. Fearless, he moved along many paths, felling elephants, and from every side he appeared like a whirling wheel of fire. Drenched in blood, he darted like a falcon among the troops of horses, among the elephants, among the chariot ranks, and among the masses of infantry, striking them down and growing fiercer against the strength of his foes. Swift as he was, with his sharp-edged sword he cleaved their bodies and heads in the battle of the elephant-riders. This one enraged foot soldier, alone, increasing the fear of his enemies and resembling Yama at the end of time, threw them into confusion. Bewildered, they nonetheless charged at him with cries, as he moved through the great battle with a sword of extraordinary swiftness. The strong crusher of enemies cut down the charioteers' shafts and yokes in battle, and struck down the chariot warriors themselves. As Bhimasena moved along his paths, he was seen by countless men, displaying whirling, leaping, casting, springing, thrusting, gliding, sweeping, falling, and rising — the Pandava showed all of this. Some, cut down by the great-souled Pandava's sword-strokes, cried out with their vital parts pierced and fell lifeless. Others, elephants with tusks and trunks severed and frontal lobes shattered, left riderless, struck at their own ranks, O Bharata, and likewise crashed to the ground, uttering great cries.
