स्वागतं वो महाभागाः स्वागतं वो महारथाः ॥
तुष्यामि दर्शनाच् चाहं युष्माकम् अमरोपमाः ॥
अभिनन्द्य स तान् एवं शिरसा लम्बताब्रवीत् ॥
शिरो मे लम्बते ऽत्यर्थम् उपधानं प्रदीयताम् ॥
ततो नृपाः समाजह्रुस् तनूनि च मृदूनि च ॥
उपधानानि मुख्यानि नैच्छत् तानि पितामहः ॥
अब्रवीच् च नरव्याघ्रः प्रहसन्न् इव तान् नृपान् ॥
नैतानि वीरशय्यासु युक्तरूपाणि पार्थिवाः ॥
ततो वीक्ष्य नरश्रेष्ठम् अभ्यभाषत पाण्डवम् ॥
धनंजयं दीर्घबाहुं सर्वलोकमहारथम् ॥
धनंजय महाबाहो शिरसो मे ऽस्य लम्बतः ॥
दीयताम् उपधानं वै यद् युक्तम् इह मन्यसे ॥

śiro me lambate 'tyartham upadhānaṃ pradīyatām ||
tato nṛpāḥ samājahrus tanūni ca mṛdūni ca ||
upadhānāni mukhyāni naicchat tāni pitāmahaḥ ||
abravīc ca naravyāghraḥ prahasann iva tān nṛpān ||
naitāni vīraśayyāsu yuktarūpāṇi pārthivāḥ ||
tato vīkṣya naraśreṣṭham abhyabhāṣata pāṇḍavam ||
dhanaṃjayaṃ dīrghabāhuṃ sarvalokamahāratham ||
dhanaṃjaya mahābāho śiraso me 'sya lambataḥ ||
dīyatām upadhānaṃ vai yad yuktam iha manyase ||

उपधानम् प्रदीयताम्upadhānam pradīyatāmlet a pillow be given; give me support
ततः नृपाः समाजह्रुःtataḥ nṛpāḥ samājahruḥthen the kings brought; after that the lords delivered
तनूनि च मृदूनि चtanūni ca mṛdūni cafine and soft; delicate and soft

अनुवाद

Bhishma said: "Welcome to you, most fortunate ones; welcome to you, great chariot-warriors. I am glad to see you, who are like the immortals." Having greeted them thus, he spoke, his head drooping: "My head hangs very low; let support be given to me." Then the kings brought the finest soft and delicate pillows, but the grandsire did not want them. The tiger among men, as though smiling, said to those kings: "O lords, these are not fitting for a hero's bed." Then, looking at the long-armed Dhananjaya, the Pandava, the great chariot-warrior of all the worlds, he addressed him: "Dhananjaya, strong-armed one, give this drooping head of mine whatever support you consider fitting here."
