शकटस्य तु राजेन्द्र भारद्वाजो मुखे स्थितः ॥
अनु तस्याभवद् भोजो जुगोपैनं ततः स्वयम् ॥
श्वेतवर्माम्बरोष्णीषो व्यूढोरस्को महाभुजः ॥
धनुर् विस्फारयन् द्रोणस् तस्थौ क्रुद्ध इवान्तकः ॥

अनुवाद
At the cart's front, O lord of kings, the son of Bharadvaja stood at its mouth; following him was the Bhoja [Kritavarman], who guarded him in person. Clad in white armor, white garb, and white turban, broad-chested and mighty-armed, twanging his bow, Drona stood like wrathful Antaka.

Drona at the tip of the formation is "kruddhaḥ iva antakaḥ", like wrathful Death, clad in the white of an ascetic-warrior. The image is fearsome and majestic. Yet even the greatest of teachers now stands guard over an unjust cause: his power serves to shelter the guilty. It is telling that whiteness -- the color of purity -- clothes one who stands watch over wrongdoing. The verse teaches that even perfected valor, given to an unjust cause, loses its blessing: Drona is terrible as Antaka, but that terror is turned to defending sin, and is thus doomed before the will of the Lord.
