तत्र के चिन् मिथो राजन् समभाषन्त भूमिपाः ॥
अदृष्टपूर्वं संग्रामे तद् दृष्ट्वा महद् अद्भुतम् ॥
सर्वसैन्यानि राजा च धृतराष्ट्रो ऽत्ययं गतः ॥
दुर्योधनापराधेन क्षत्रं कृत्स्ना च मेदिनी ॥
विलयं समनुप्राप्ता तच् च राजा न बुध्यते ॥
इत्य् एवं क्षत्रियास् तत्र ब्रुवन्त्य् अन्ये च भारत ॥
tatra ke cin mitho rājan samabhāṣanta bhūmipāḥ ||
adṛṣṭapūrvaṃ saṃgrāme tad dṛṣṭvā mahad adbhutam ||
sarvasainyāni rājā ca dhṛtarāṣṭro 'tyayaṃ gataḥ ||
duryodhanāparādhena kṣatraṃ kṛtsnā ca medinī ||
vilayaṃ samanuprāptā tac ca rājā na budhyate ||
ity evaṃ kṣatriyās tatra bruvanty anye ca bhārata ||
There some kings spoke among themselves, O king, having seen that great wonder unseen before in battle: 'All the armies and King Dhritarashtra have come to ruin; by the fault of Duryodhana, all the kshatriyas and the whole earth have come to ruin, yet the king does not perceive this.' Thus indeed the kshatriyas there, and others too, say, O Bharata.

Even the Kaurava warriors perceive the truth: 'duryodhanāparādhena kṣatraṃ kṛtsnā ca medinī vilayam samanuprāptā,' by Duryodhana's fault all the kshatriyas and the earth are perishing, 'rājā na budhyate,' yet the blind king does not perceive it. It is telling that the verdict on Duryodhana and Dhritarashtra sounds from within their own camp. The verse teaches that a leader's wrongdoing is evident even to his own men: the rank and file see the ruin caused by the king's obstinacy before the king himself does; and history passes its verdict not from outside but through the mouths of those whom a wrongful leader is leading to ruin.
