तत्राद्भुतम् अपश्याम भीमसेनस्य विक्रमम् ॥
संवार्याधिरथिं बाणैर् यज् जघान तवात्मजान् ॥
स वार्यमाणो भीमेन शितैर् बाणैः समन्ततः ॥
सूतपुत्रो महाराज भीमसेनम् अवैक्षत ॥
तं भीमसेनः संरम्भात् क्रोधसंरक्तलोचनः ॥
विस्फार्य सुमहच् चापं मुहुः कर्णम् अवैक्षत ॥

tatrādbhutam apaśyāma bhīmasenasya vikramam ||
saṃvāryādhirathiṃ bāṇair yaj jaghāna tavātmajān ||
sa vāryamāṇo bhīmena śitair bāṇaiḥ samantataḥ ||
sūtaputro mahārāja bhīmasenam avaikṣata ||
taṃ bhīmasenaḥ saṃrambhāt krodhasaṃraktalocanaḥ ||
visphārya sumahac cāpaṃ muhuḥ karṇam avaikṣata ||

शब्दशः अर्थ

यत् जघान तव आत्मजान्yat jaghāna tava ātmajān[in] that he slew your sons; [in] that he slew your sons
सः वार्यमाणः भीमेनsaḥ vāryamāṇaḥ bhīmenahe, restrained by Bhima; he, restrained by Bhima
शितैः बाणैः समन्ततःśitaiḥ bāṇaiḥ samantataḥwith sharp arrows from every side; with sharp arrows from all sides
सूतपुत्रः महाराजsūtaputraḥ mahārājathe son of the suta, great king; the son of the charioteer, O great king
भीमसेनम् अवैक्षतbhīmasenam avaikṣata[at] Bhimasena gazed; gazed at Bhimasena
तम् भीमसेनः संरम्भात्tam bhīmasenaḥ saṃrambhātat him Bhimasena, [out of] fury; at him, Bhimasena, in fury
क्रोधसंरक्तलोचनःkrodhasaṃraktalocanaḥ[with] eyes red [from] wrath; with eyes crimson from wrath
विस्फार्य सुमहत् चापम्visphārya sumahat cāpamhaving drawn his mighty bow; having drawn his great bow
मुहुः कर्णम् अवैक्षतmuhuḥ karṇam avaikṣataagain [and] again at Karna gazed; again and again gazed at Karna
अनुवाद

"There we beheld a wonder — the valor of Bhimasena: that, restraining the son of Adhiratha with arrows, he yet slew your sons. He, held in check by Bhima's sharp arrows from every side, the son of the suta, O great king, gazed at Bhimasena. And at him Bhimasena, in fury, his eyes crimson with wrath, drawing his mighty bow, gazed again and again at Karna."
