निकृत्या निकृताः पार्था विषयोगैश् च भारत ॥
दग्धा जतुगृहे चापि द्यूतेन च पराजिताः ॥
राजनीतिं व्यपाश्रित्य प्रहिताश् चैव काननम् ॥
यत्नेन च कृतं यत् ते दैवेन विनिपातितम् ॥
युध्यस्व यत्नम् आस्थाय मृत्युं कृत्वा निवर्तनम् ॥
यततस् तव तेषां च दैवं मार्गेण यास्यति ॥

nikṛtyā nikṛtāḥ pārthā viṣayogaiś ca bhārata ||
dagdhā jatugṛhe cāpi dyūtena ca parājitāḥ ||
rājanītiṃ vyapāśritya prahitāś caiva kānanam ||
yatnena ca kṛtaṃ yat te daivena vinipātitam ||
yudhyasva yatnam āsthāya mṛtyuṃ kṛtvā nivartanam ||
yatatas tava teṣāṃ ca daivaṃ mārgeṇa yāsyati ||

निकृत्या निकृताः पार्थाःnikṛtyā nikṛtāḥ pārthāḥby deceit deceived were the Parthas; by deceit the Parthas were deceived
विषयोगैः च भारतviṣayogaiḥ ca bhārataand by poisons, Bharata; and by poisons, O Bharata
दग्धाः जतुगृहे च अपिdagdhāḥ jatugṛhe ca apiburned [in] the house of lac also; and burned in the house of lac
द्यूतेन च पराजिताःdyūtena ca parājitāḥand by the game defeated; and defeated [in] the dice game
राजनीतिम् व्यपाश्रित्यrājanītim vyapāśrityahaving resorted [to] statecraft's cunning; having resorted to [treacherous] policy
प्रहिताः च एव काननम्prahitāḥ ca eva kānanamand sent [into] the forest; and sent into the forest
यत्नेन च कृतम् यत् तेyatnena ca kṛtam yat teand what by effort was done by you; and what was done by you through effort
दैवेन विनिपातितम्daivena vinipātitamwas overthrown by fate; was overthrown by fate
युध्यस्व यत्नम् आस्थायyudhyasva yatnam āsthāyafight, having applied effort; fight, having exerted effort
मृत्युम् कृत्वा निवर्तनम्mṛtyum kṛtvā nivartanammaking death [your] turning point [limit]; making death your [own] limit
यततः तव तेषाम् चyatataḥ tava teṣām ca[for] you striving and for them; for you, as you strive, and for them
दैवम् मार्गेण यास्यतिdaivam mārgeṇa yāsyatifate [its own] path will go; fate will go its own way
अनुवाद

'By deceit the Parthas were deceived, and by poisons, O Bharata, and burned in the house of lac, and defeated [in] the dice game; having resorted to [treacherous] policy, they were sent into the forest. And what was done by you through effort was overthrown by fate. Fight, having exerted effort, making death your own limit; [but] for you, as you strive, and for them, fate will go its own way.'
