द्रौणिः पाञ्चालराजानं भारद्वाजश् च सृञ्जयान् ॥
छादयाम् आसतुः संख्ये शरैः संनतपर्वभिः ॥
पाण्डुपाञ्चालसेनानां कौरवाणां च मारिष ॥
आसीन् निष्टानको घोरो निघ्नताम् इतरेतरम् ॥
नैवास्माभिर् न पूर्वैर् नो दृष्टं पूर्वं तथाविधम् ॥
युद्धं यादृशम् एवासीत् तां रात्रिं सुमहाभयम् ॥

chādayām āsatuḥ saṃkhye śaraiḥ saṃnataparvabhiḥ ||

āsīn niṣṭānako ghoro nighnatām itaretaram ||
naivāsmābhir na pūrvair no dṛṣṭaṃ pūrvaṃ tathāvidham ||
yuddhaṃ yādṛśam evāsīt tāṃ rātriṃ sumahābhayam ||

ताम् रात्रिम् सुमहाभयम्tām rātrim sumahābhayam[on] that night, most terrible; on that night, most terrible
अनुवाद

Drauni [covered] the king of the Panchalas, and Bharadvaja the Srinjayas; those two covered [them] in the encounter with smooth-jointed arrows. Among the armies of the Pandus and Panchalas, and among the Kauravas, O worthy one, there was a dreadful roar of those striking one another. Neither by us nor by our forebears was such a battle ever seen before as this one was, on that night, most terrible.
