Eight sons of Kalaka (Kalaya), mighty as tigers, were born as kings, O tiger among kings. The best of those eight Kaleyas, the great asura, became the glorious King Jayatsena among the Magadhas. The second of them, glorious, resembling Indra — he, renowned as Aparajita, became lord of men. The third, O great king, mighty-armed, a great asura — he was born on earth as lord of the Nishadas, terrible in valor. He among them who is named fourth — renowned as Shrenimana, he became on earth the foremost of royal sages. The fifth of them was the best of the great asuras; renowned as Mahaujas, he became here the scorcher of foes. The sixth, who was among them a wise great asura — renowned as Abhiru, he became on earth the foremost of royal sages. And King Samudrasena, too, was of that same host, renowned on earth as far as the ocean, a knower of the essence of dharma and profit. The eighth of those Kaleyas, named Brihan, scorcher of foes, became, O king, righteous, devoted to the welfare of all beings. From the host named Krodhavasha, which I have recounted, O king, there were then born on earth heroic kings: Nandika, and Karnaveshta, Siddhartha, and also Kitaka, Suvira, and Subahu, Mahavira, then Bahlika, Krodha, Vichitya, Surasa, the glorious King Nila, and Viradhaman, O Kauravya, and one named Bhumipala, and he who was named Dantavaktra, and he named Durjaya, Rukmin, tiger among kings, and King Janamejaya, Ashadha, and Vayuvega, and also Bhuritejas, Ekalavya and Sumitra, Vatadhana and Gomukha, and the kings of Karusha, and Kshemadhurti, and also Shrutayu, and Uddhava, and also Brihatsena, Kshema, Ugratirtha, Kuhara — lord among the Kalingas, and Matiman, O lord of men, and he who is renowned as Ishvara. Thus from the host of Krodhavasha there arose on earth a most glorious and mighty multitude of kings, born long ago, O great king.
