ततो द्रोणो ऽर्जुनं भूयो रथेषु च गजेषु च ॥
अश्वेषु भूमाव् अपि च रणशिक्षाम् अशिक्षयत् ॥
गदायुद्धे ऽसिचर्यायां तोमरप्रासशक्तिषु ॥
द्रोणः संकीर्णयुद्धेषु शिक्षयाम् आस पाण्डवम् ॥
तस्य तत् कौशलं दृष्ट्वा धनुर्वेदजिघृक्षवः ॥
राजानो राजपुत्राश् च समाजग्मुः सहस्रशः ॥
tato droṇo 'rjunaṃ bhūyo ratheṣu ca gajeṣu ca ||
aśveṣu bhūmāv api ca raṇaśikṣām aśikṣayat ||
gadāyuddhe 'sicaryāyāṃ tomaraprāsaśaktiṣu ||
droṇaḥ saṃkīrṇayuddheṣu śikṣayām āsa pāṇḍavam ||
tasya tat kauśalaṃ dṛṣṭvā dhanurvedajighṛkṣavaḥ ||
rājāno rājaputrāś ca samājagmuḥ sahasraśaḥ ||
Vaishampayana said: "Then Drona trained Arjuna further on chariots, elephants, horses, and on foot in the art of war; in combat with the mace, in swordsmanship, in fighting with dart, javelin, and lance, and in mixed forms of combat Drona trained the Pandava. Seeing his skill, kings and princes wishing to master the science of archery flocked to him by the thousands."

Here is revealed the all-round completeness of Arjuna's military training and Drona's renown as a teacher. It is telling that the training spans every kind of combat -- on chariot, elephant, horse, and foot, with every kind of weapon: the perfect warrior must master all of it. In this one sees the ideal of wholeness in fulfilling one's calling: whatever one is called to, in that one must attain all-round perfection. Telling too is that Arjuna's skill draws thousands: manifest mastery gathers disciples of itself. Thus scripture shows Arjuna's rise to the fullness of the warrior's art under an incomparable teacher.
