译文

Vaishampayana said: "Then the son of the king of the Nishadas, Hiranyadhanus -- Ekalavya, O great king -- came to Drona; but he, the knower of dharma, did not accept him as a disciple in archery, thinking, 'He is a Nishada,' out of regard for those [princes]. He, that scourge of foes, bowing his head to Drona's feet, withdrew into the forest and, having made an image of Drona out of clay, undertook before it the highest service to the teacher, and applied himself with diligence to archery, observing the strictest vow. Endowed with the highest faith and the highest diligence, in releasing, drawing, and nocking arrows he attained the highest dexterity."
