Here Kunti crowns her argument by resting it upon the word of the sage. It is notable that she traces her decision back to the teaching of Vyasa: it stands not on her own whim but on the instruction of one enlightened by God. Herein is the dharma of following authority (sadhu, shastra, guru): a righteous act is verified by the word of the holy, not by one's own judgment alone. Thus the scripture shows that Kunti's decision is not arbitrary but rooted in tradition; and the reference to Vyasa turns a personal choice into the fulfillment of a sanctified law — by which Yudhishthira is persuaded.
