Here the tale converges with the lineage of the listener. It is significant that from the union of Samvarana and the daughter of the sun is born Kuru — the progenitor whose name the whole line bears: at the source of this renowned lineage stand valor, holiness, and celestial blood alike. Here is a reminder that the greatness of descendants is rooted in the piety of ancestors. Thus the scripture shows Arjuna's descent from Tapati, the daughter of Surya; and the epithet "Tapatya" reminds him of the celestial and righteous origin of his line.
