बलस्थश् चासि राजा च बाहुवीर्यश् च क्षत्रियः ॥
यथेच्छसि तथा क्षिप्रं कुरु त्वं मा विचारय ॥

Here the saint meets a threat with unshaken calm. It is significant that Vasishtha does not resist by force nor grow angry, but as it were leaves the king free to act as he wills: the patient one does not enter into strife, trusting in dharma. This shows the highest meekness, which does not answer insolence with insolence. Thus the scripture shows the power of calm -- and Vasishtha, without raising a hand, leaves the outcome to that very power of Brahman which the king has scorned.
