तैर् विसृष्टैर् महत् सैन्यं नानाम्लेच्छगणैस् तदा ॥
नानावरणसंछन्नैर् नानायुधधरैस् तथा ॥
अवाकीर्यत संरब्धैर् विश्वामित्रस्य पश्यतः ॥
एकैकश् च तदा योधः पञ्चभिः सप्तभिर् वृतः ॥
अस्त्रवर्षेण महता काल्यमानं बलं ततः ॥
प्रभग्नं सर्वतस् त्रस्तं विश्वामित्रस्य पश्यतः ॥
tair visṛṣṭair mahat sainyaṃ nānāmlecchagaṇais tadā ||
nānāvaraṇasaṃchannair nānāyudhadharais tathā ||
avākīryata saṃrabdhair viśvāmitrasya paśyataḥ ||
ekaikaś ca tadā yodhaḥ pañcabhiḥ saptabhir vṛtaḥ ||
astravarṣeṇa mahatā kālyamānaṃ balaṃ tataḥ ||
prabhagnaṃ sarvatas trastaṃ viśvāmitrasya paśyataḥ ||
"By those hosts of various Mleccha peoples that she had brought forth, clad in various armor, bearing various weapons, raging, the great army was overwhelmed -- before the eyes of Vishvamitra. And each of his warriors, surrounded by five or seven of them, driven under a great rain of weapons, and the army broke apart everywhere, seized with terror, before the eyes of Vishvamitra."

Here the king's army is put to flight before the offspring of brahminical power. Telling is it that the rout unfolds "before the eyes of Vishvamitra" -- the proud man sees the collapse of his own strength with his own eyes: the humbling of the arrogant is made plain. Here it is seen how the seeming superiority of weapons crumbles before spiritual power. Thus scripture shows the vanity of kshatriya pride; and Vishvamitra, who scorned a brahmin's patience, beholds with his own eyes what the strength he once revered is truly worth.
