एवम् उक्तः स विप्रर्षिर् वसिष्ठेन महात्मना ॥
न्ययच्छद् आत्मनः कोपं सर्वलोकपराभवात् ॥
ईजे च स महातेजाः सर्ववेदविदां वरः ॥
ऋषी राक्षससत्रेण शाक्तेयो ऽथ पराशरः ॥

译文
The Gandharva said: "So instructed by the great-souled Vasishtha, that brahman-sage held back his wrath from destroying all the worlds. And the greatly radiant one, best of all knowers of the Vedas, the son of Shakti, Parashara, performed the rakshasa-sattra."

Here the wrath held back from universal destruction still seeks its own outlet. It is significant that Parashara, having turned away from destroying the worlds, directs his fury upon the rakshasas alone: partially curbed, wrath finds a narrower channel. This shows that passion not fully overcome, when diverted from the worse, still works evil in the lesser -- a half-measure is not a complete victory over anger. Thus the scripture reveals that to restrain fury by half is not to conquer it; and Parashara still has to arrive at full forgiveness.
