समापिपयिषुः सत्रं तम् अत्रिः समुपागमत् ॥
तथा पुलस्त्यः पुलहः क्रतुश् चैव महाक्रतुम् ॥
उपाजग्मुर् अमित्रघ्न रक्षसां जीवितेप्सया ॥

Here great sages gather to save the persecuted. It is significant that renowned seers come not to praise the rite but to stop the slaughter: mercy moves the holy to intercede even for the rakshasas. This shows that true holiness stands for life, not for vengeance -- the wise hasten to where the innocent perish. Thus the scripture reveals the united intercession of the righteous; and the arrival of Atri and the others foretells the end of the bloodshed.
