अगस्त्यशास्ताम् अभितो दिशं तु; शिरांसि तेषां कुरुसत्तमानाम् ॥
कुन्ती पुरस्तात् तु बभूव तेषां; कृष्णा तिरश् चैव बभूव पत्तः ॥
अशेत भूमौ सह पाण्डुपुत्रैः; पादोपधानेव कृता कुशेषु ॥
न तत्र दुःखं च बभूव तस्या; न चावमेने कुरुपुंगवांस् तान् ॥
agastyaśāstām abhito diśaṃ tu; śirāṃsi teṣāṃ kurusattamānām ||
kuntī purastāt tu babhūva teṣāṃ; kṛṣṇā tiraś caiva babhūva pattaḥ ||
aśeta bhūmau saha pāṇḍuputraiḥ; pādopadhāneva kṛtā kuśeṣu ||
na tatra duḥkhaṃ ca babhūva tasyā; na cāvamene kurupuṃgavāṃs tān ||
"Toward the southern direction were turned the heads of those best of Kurus; Kunti was at their heads, and Krishna lay crosswise, at their feet; she lay down on the ground with the sons of Pandu, as if made a footstool at their feet, upon the kusha grass. And there was no sorrow in her there, nor did she scorn those bulls among the Kurus."

Here a princess, sleeping at her husbands' feet on the bare ground, knows neither grief nor contempt. It is telling that Draupadi, daughter of a king and a woman of wondrous beauty, is content even with a humble bed at the feet of the Pandavas: neither poverty nor a lowly place breeds in her either sorrow or proud disdain. Here is the height of her soul: one who is truly noble does not measure happiness by luxury, nor does she disdain a humble lot. So the scripture reveals Draupadi's equanimity and devotion, and her contentment is a mark of a purity higher than any rank.
