यो ऽसौ युवा स्वायतलोहिताक्षः; कृष्णाजिनी देवसमानरूपः ॥
यः कार्मुकाग्र्यं कृतवान् अधिज्यं; लक्ष्यं च तत् पातितवान् पृथिव्याम् ॥
असज्जमानश् च गतस् तरस्वी; वृतो द्विजाग्र्यैर् अभिपूज्यमानः ॥
चक्राम वज्रीव दितेः सुतेषु; सर्वैश् च देवैर् ऋषिभिश् च जुष्टः ॥
yo 'sau yuvā svāyatalohitākṣaḥ; kṛṣṇājinī devasamānarūpaḥ ||
yaḥ kārmukāgryaṃ kṛtavān adhijyaṃ; lakṣyaṃ ca tat pātitavān pṛthivyām ||
asajjamānaś ca gatas tarasvī; vṛto dvijāgryair abhipūjyamānaḥ ||
cakrāma vajrīva diteḥ suteṣu; sarvaiś ca devair ṛṣibhiś ca juṣṭaḥ ||
Dhrishtadyumna said: "That youth, red-eyed, clad in a black hide, godlike, who strung the excellent bow with its cord and brought down that mark to the ground; and, unimpeded by anything, swift, surrounded by the finest brahmins, honored, went forth like the Thunderer among the sons of Diti, honored by all gods and sages."

Here the brother paints for his father the image of the victor. The comparison to Indra among the asuras is significant: the youth's valor is so formidable that it recalls the divine. The deed glorifies itself: the description of the feat awakens awe in the listener. Thus the scripture shows Arjuna's greatness through an eyewitness's eyes; and his image, conveyed by the son, kindles the father's hope.
