न मे वाग् अनृतं प्राह नाधर्मे धीयते मतिः ॥
वर्तते हि मनो मे ऽत्र नैषो ऽधर्मः कथं चन ॥
श्रूयते हि पुराणे ऽपि जटिला नाम गौतमी ॥
ऋषीन् अध्यासितवती सप्त धर्मभृतां वर ॥

译文
Yudhishthira said: 'My speech has not spoken untruth, and my mind does not rest on unrighteousness; for my mind inclines toward this — this is not unrighteousness at all. Here Yudhishthira supports his own conviction with the testimony of scripture. It is telling that he cites the tradition of Jatila: the exception to the rule is not his own invention but has an ancient precedent in sacred memory. This shows that a rare allowance is confirmed by scripture, not by personal will, and that the conscience of the righteous agrees with tradition. Thus scripture shows reliance on the shastra, and the ancient example prepares the ground for Vyasa's word.
