तस्माद् एतद् अहं मन्ये धर्मं द्विजवरोत्तम ॥

Here the sanctity of the mother's word is exalted. It is telling that the teaching holds the mother to be the supreme teacher, and her word to be dharma. Yudhishthira does not act on his own will but obeys: he honors what Kunti said unwittingly as a command, for to the righteous a mother's word is inviolable. Here it is shown that obedience to guru and parent is the root of dharma, and that fidelity to their word outweighs one's own convenience. Thus scripture shows the greatness of a mother's bidding, and upon it Yudhishthira grounds his decision.
