"But let Bhishma, and Drona, and Vidura, and the two of you as well, once again devise a decision that would be for our good." Then, having summoned all those counselors, the most illustrious Dhritarashtra began to take counsel.

Here the king calls upon the elders -- and in this there is a glimmer of hope. It is telling that Dhritarashtra summons Bhishma, Drona, and Vidura: the voice of the wise and righteous can still outweigh evil counsel. Turning to the elders in dharma proves a saving path for a wavering heart. Thus the scripture shows a council being convened; and it is the word of righteous men that will decide the further fate of the Pandavas.
