Here the highest secret is revealed: Krishna and Arjuna are Narayana and Nara. The verse calls them by the eternal names of the sages Nara and Narayana: behind the earthly friendship of Krishna and Arjuna stands the eternal union of the Lord and His inseparable companion. Here is the image of the soul [Nara] and the Lord [Narayana] abiding together forever: where Narayana is, there is Nara also, as body and shadow. So the verse reveals the divine nature of their friendship; and their earthly affection is a reflection of eternal oneness.
