ताम् एव तु ममामित्रीं चिन्तयन् परितप्यसे ॥
ध्रुवं मयि न ते स्नेहो यथा तस्यां पुराभवत् ॥
न हि पक्षवता न्याय्यं निःस्नेहेन सुहृज्जने ॥
पीड्यमान उपद्रष्टुं शक्तेनात्मा कथं चन ॥
गच्छ त्वं जरिताम् एव यदर्थं परितप्यसे ॥
चरिष्याम्य् अहम् अप्य् एका यथा कापुरुषे तथा ॥
tām eva tu mamāmitrīṃ cintayan paritapyase ||
dhruvaṃ mayi na te sneho yathā tasyāṃ purābhavat ||
na hi pakṣavatā nyāyyaṃ niḥsnehena suhṛjjane ||
pīḍyamāna upadraṣṭuṃ śaktenātmā kathaṃ cana ||
gaccha tvaṃ jaritām eva yadarthaṃ paritapyase ||
cariṣyāmy aham apy ekā yathā kāpuruṣe tathā ||
“It is of that rival of mine that you think and torment yourself; surely you no longer feel for me the love you once felt for her; for it is not fitting for one who is partial, without love for the dear one, to merely look on when the beloved suffers, while able to help; go, then, to Jarita herself, for whose sake you torment yourself; and I will wander alone — as befits life with a wicked husband.”

Here jealousy reaches the point of rupture. It is telling that Lapita, having read a father's anxiety as love for a rival, drives her husband away: jealousy sees betrayal where there is only concern for children. One sees how destructive jealousy is to marital harmony. Thus the scripture reveals a bitter discord; and Mandapala will answer her.
