सभा तु सा महा-राजsabhā tu sā mahā-rājathat hall, O great king,
शात-कुम्भ-मय-द्रुमाśāta-kumbha-maya-drumāwith trees of gold,
दश किष्कु-सहस्राणिdaśa kiṣku-sahasrāṇistretched ten thousand kishkus
समन्तात् आयता अभवत्samantāt āyatā abhavatin every direction;
यथा वह्नेः यथा अर्कस्यyathā vahneḥ yathā arkasyalike [the radiance] of fire, like the sun,
सोमस्य च यथा एव साsomasya ca yathā eva sāand the moon — even so it,
भ्राजमाना तथा दिव्याbhrājamānā tathā divyāshining, divine,
बभार परमम् वपुःbabhāra paramam vapuḥbore a supreme form;
प्रतिघ्नती इव प्रभयाpratighnatī iva prabhayāas if outshining with its own splendor

Here the palace appears as something beyond the world, luminous like the heavenly bodies themselves. It is telling that the dwelling of the righteous king is likened to fire, sun, and moon: where dharma is established, even the visible shines with heavenly light. It is not luxury that is praised here, but a dignity in which beauty and holiness meet. Thus scripture shows the splendor of the Mayasabha; and further, its perfection follows.
