अस्य वीर्यवतः वीर्यम्asya vīryavataḥ vīryamthe valor of this valorous one
न अनुयास्यन्ति पार्थिवाःna anuyāsyanti pārthivāḥkings will not attain [will not equal];
देवैः अपि विसृष्टानिdevaiḥ api visṛṣṭānieven weapons loosed
शस्त्राणि अस्य मही-पतेśastrāṇi asya mahī-pateby the gods against him, O lord of the earth,
न रुजम् जनयिष्यन्तिna rujam janayiṣyantiwill cause him no harm,
गिरेः इव नदी-रयाःgireḥ iva nadī-rayāḥjust as river torrents [do no harm] to a mountain;
सर्व-मूर्ध-अभिषिक्तानाम्sarva-mūrdha-abhiṣiktānāmabove all the anointed [kings]
एषः मूर्ध्नि ज्वलिष्यतिeṣaḥ mūrdhni jvaliṣyatihe will blaze at the crown,
सर्वेषाम् निष्प्रभ-करःsarveṣām niṣprabha-karaḥdepriving all of their brilliance,
ज्योतिषाम् इव भास्करःjyotiṣām iva bhāskaraḥas the sun [outshines] the heavenly lights;
एनम् आसाद्य राजानःenam āsādya rājānaḥmeeting him, kings,
समृद्ध-बल-वाहनाःsamṛddha-bala-vāhanāḥabundant in army and [draft] animals,
विनाशम् उपयास्यन्तिvināśam upayāsyantiwill come to destruction,

Here a fearsome invulnerability is foretold: not even the weapons of the gods will wound him. It is significant that [as will happen] it is not weapons but bare hands that will slay him — Bhima's hands: where metal is powerless, dharma armed only with the body prevails. Scripture thus marks out in advance the manner of his death; and next comes his dominion.
