तपोवनस्थे पितरि मातृभ्यां सह भारत ॥
जरासंधः स्ववीर्येण पार्थिवान् अकरोद् वशे ॥
अथ दीर्घस्य कालस्य तपोवनगतो नृपः ॥
सभार्यः स्वर्गम् अगमत् तपस् तप्त्वा बृहद्रथः ॥

译文
'[While] the father [was] in the forest of austerity with [both] mothers, O Bharata, Jarasandha, by his own valor, subjugated the kings; and after a long time, the king who had gone to the forest of austerity, having performed his austerity, went to heaven with his wives — Brihadratha.'

Here two paths diverge: the father ascends to heaven through austerity, the son to power through force. It is significant that from one root come two opposite fruits: a devout father and a power-hungry son. Scripture thus shows that each one's freedom chooses its own path, unbound by inheritance; and next come the tyrant's abettors.
