स्वर्गयोनिस् तपो युद्धे मार्गः सो ऽव्यभिचारवान् ॥
एष ह्य् ऐन्द्रो वैजयन्तो गुणो नित्यं समाहितः ॥
येनासुरान् पराजित्य जगत् पाति शतक्रतुः ॥

“The womb of heaven is victory, O king; the womb of heaven is great fame; the womb of heaven is austerity — and in battle that is the unswerving path. For this is Indra's Vaijayanta valor, ever gathered, by which Shatakratu, having overcome the asuras, protects the world.”

Here valor in righteous battle is raised to the image of Indra, who protects the world by conquering the asuras. It is telling that the battle against evil is not destruction but the guarding of order: as Indra overcomes the asuras for the sake of peace, so must the tyrant be overcome. Thus scripture shows righteous war as service to the cosmic order; what follows is a warning to the enemy.
