देवतार्थम् उपाकृत्य राज्ञः कृष्ण कथं भयात् ॥
अहम् अद्य विमुञ्चेयं क्षात्रं व्रतम् अनुस्मरन् ॥
सैन्यं सैन्येन व्यूढेन एक एकेन वा पुनः ॥
द्वाभ्यां त्रिभिर् वा योत्स्ये ऽहं युगपत् पृथग् एव वा ॥

Here stubbornness dresses itself as false valor: 'I will not release them out of fear.' It is telling that a wrongly understood honor forbids repentance: pride prefers ruin to abandoning wrongdoing. Thus scripture shows how a perverted notion of honor destroys; and next, he prepares for battle.
