यावद् एव न संबुद्धं तावद् एव भवेत् तव ॥
विषह्यम् एतद् अस्माकम् अतो राजन् ब्रवीमि ते ॥
जहि त्वं सदृशेष्व् एव मानं दर्पं च मागध ॥
मा गमः ससुतामात्यः सबलश् च यमक्षयम् ॥

译文
“As long as our might had not awakened, so long would your superiority have lasted; only until then would this our strength be bearable for you — therefore, O king, I say to you: abandon, at least among your equals, your arrogance and pride, O Magadha; do not go, with your sons, counselors, and army, into the abode of Yama.”

Here Krishna shows mercy even to the enemy: he offers him a way to renounce his pride and be saved. It is telling that the Lord does not crave the tyrant's destruction but grants him a path to life through humility. Thus scripture shows that even chastisement is preceded by a call to repentance; what follows are examples of fallen men of pride.
