कौशिकीकच्छनिलयं राजानं च महौजसम् ॥
उभौ बलवृतौ वीराव् उभौ तीव्रपराक्रमौ ॥
निर्जित्याजौ महाराज वङ्गराजम् उपाद्रवत् ॥

pāṇḍavo bāhuvīryeṇa nijaghāna mahāmṛdhe ||
tataḥ pauṇḍrādhipaṃ vīraṃ vāsudevaṃ mahābalam ||
kauśikīkacchanilayaṃ rājānaṃ ca mahaujasam ||
ubhau balavṛtau vīrāv ubhau tīvraparākramau ||
nirjityājau mahārāja vaṅgarājam upādravat ||
Then, by the might of his arms, the Pandava slew the most powerful king Modagiri in a great battle. Then — the lord of Pundra, the mighty hero Vasudeva, and a king of great power dwelling in Kaushiki-kaccha; having conquered both in battle, O great king — both surrounded by hosts, both of fierce prowess — he rushed upon the king of Vanga.

Among the conquered is a 'Vasudeva,' the lord of Pundra: the name of the Lord, appropriated by a mortal impostor (this is the same Paundraka who fancied himself the true Vasudeva). Telling is it that one who has arrogated a divine name is defeated like any other king: neither title nor mask grants a strength that nature did not give. The verse teaches that appropriating another's greatness, still more a divine one, does not elevate but exposes; true worth lies not in a name but in substance, and one who dresses in borrowed glory stands naked before the true test.
