करम् आहारयाम् आस रत्नानि विविधानि च ॥
चन्दनागुरुवस्त्राणि मणिमुक्तम् अनुत्तमम् ॥
काञ्चनं रजतं वज्रं विद्रुमं च महाधनम् ॥

He gathered tribute from all the mleccha kings dwelling on the islands of the sea, and various jewels: sandalwood, aloe-wood, garments, gems and unsurpassed pearls, gold, silver, diamond, and coral — great wealth.

Gifts flow in from every borderland — incense, gems, metals, corals of the sea: the abundance of the earth gathers into a single stream. Telling is it that the purpose of this gathering is not luxury but sacrifice: all that is brought is destined for the altar of the Rajasuya. The verse teaches that abundance is righteous when it does not settle into coffers but moves toward its highest use; wealth that would otherwise corrupt is sanctified by serving the sacrifice. Abundance turned toward the Lord and the common good ceases to be a burden and becomes an offering.
