Called ‘he whose valor is in truth,’ Yudhishthira leaves the assembly not with a curse but with a bow to his elders — Bhishma and Drona, the very ones who did not defend him. Thus his highest valor is shown not in strength of arm but in fidelity to truth and to reverence, unshaken even in humiliation. His brief ‘so be it’ is an acceptance both of Vidura’s counsel and of his own lot: the righteous man does not complain but agrees to bear what is appointed. The verse teaches that a man’s greatness lies in truth and humility, not in triumph; that the noble, even when wronged, renders honor to those worthy of their rank, separating the rank from their failure; and that one who sets out on a path of sorrow with a bow and with assent already carries within himself the pledge of a victorious return.
