तस्यां रात्र्यां व्यतीतायां प्रातर् उत्थाय कीचकः ॥
गत्वा राजकुलायैव द्रौपदीम् इदम् अब्रवीत् ॥
सभायां पश्यतो राज्ञः पातयित्वा पदाहनम् ॥
न चैवालभथास् त्राणम् अभिपन्ना बलीयसा ॥
प्रवादेन हि मत्स्यानां राजा नाम्नायम् उच्यते ॥
अहम् एव हि मत्स्यानां राजा वै वाहिनीपतिः ॥
सा सुखं प्रतिपद्यस्व दासो भीरु भवामि ते ॥
अह्नाय तव सुश्रोणि शतं निष्कान् ददाम्य् अहम् ॥
दासीशतं च ते दद्यां दासानाम् अपि चापरम् ॥
रथं चाश्वतरीयुक्तम् अस्तु नौ भीरु संगमः ॥
द्रौपद्य् उवाच
एकं मे समयं त्व् अद्य प्रतिपद्यस्व कीचक ॥
न त्वां सखा वा भ्राता वा जानीयात् संगतं मया ॥
अवबोधाद् धि भीतास्मि गन्धर्वाणां यशस्विनाम् ॥
एवं मे प्रतिजानीहि ततो ऽहं वशगा तव ॥
कीचक उवाच
एवम् एतत् करिष्यामि यथा सुश्रोणि भाषसे ॥
एको भद्रे गमिष्यामि शून्यम् आवसथं तव ॥
समागमार्थं रम्भोरु त्वया मदनमोहितः ॥
यथा त्वां नावभोत्स्यन्ति गन्धर्वाः सूर्यवर्चसः ॥
द्रौपद्य् उवाच
यद् इदं नर्तनागारं मत्स्यराजेन कारितम् ॥
दिवात्र कन्या नृत्यन्ति रात्रौ यान्ति यथागृहम् ॥
तमिस्रे तत्र गच्छेथा गन्धर्वास् तन् न जानते ॥
तत्र दोषः परिहृतो भविष्यति न संशयः ॥

dāsīśataṃ ca te dadyāṃ dāsānām api cāparam ||
rathaṃ cāśvatarīyuktam astu nau bhīru saṃgamaḥ ||
draupady uvāca
ekaṃ me samayaṃ tv adya pratipadyasva kīcaka ||
na tvāṃ sakhā vā bhrātā vā jānīyāt saṃgataṃ mayā ||
avabodhād dhi bhītāsmi gandharvāṇāṃ yaśasvinām ||
evaṃ me pratijānīhi tato 'haṃ vaśagā tava ||
kīcaka uvāca
evam etat kariṣyāmi yathā suśroṇi bhāṣase ||
eko bhadre gamiṣyāmi śūnyam āvasathaṃ tava ||
samāgamārthaṃ rambhoru tvayā madanamohitaḥ ||
yathā tvāṃ nāvabhotsyanti gandharvāḥ sūryavarcasaḥ ||
draupady uvāca
yad idaṃ nartanāgāraṃ matsyarājena kāritam ||
divātra kanyā nṛtyanti rātrau yānti yathāgṛham ||
tamisre tatra gacchethā gandharvās tan na jānate ||
tatra doṣaḥ parihṛto bhaviṣyati na saṃśayaḥ ||
When that night had passed, in the morning Kichaka came to the royal household and said to Draupadi: 'In the assembly, before the eyes of the king, I threw you down and struck you with my foot, and when the strongest one overpowered you, you received no protection. By common report among the Matsyas, this man is called king only in name; in truth the king of the Matsyas is I, the commander of the army. Therefore accept happiness. I shall become your slave, O timid one. At once I shall give you a hundred nishkas, O fair-hipped one, a hundred maidservants, as many slaves besides, and a chariot yoked with mules. Let there be a meeting between us.' Draupadi said: 'Today accept one condition of mine, Kichaka: let neither your friend nor your brother learn that you have met with me. I fear the glorious gandharvas will learn of it. Promise me this, and then I shall be subject to you.' Kichaka said: 'I shall do just as you say, O fair-hipped one. Alone, gracious one, I shall go to your empty dwelling, maddened with desire for union with you, O fair-thighed one, so that the gandharvas, radiant as the sun, will not perceive you.' Draupadi said: 'There is the dancing house built by the king of the Matsyas. By day the maidens dance there, and by night they go home. Go there in the darkness; the gandharvas will not know. There the danger will be averted, without doubt.'
