गते दुर्योधने कृष्णः किरीटिनम् अथाब्रवीत् ॥
अयुध्यमानः कां बुद्धिम् आस्थायाहं त्वया वृतः ॥
अर्जुन उवाच
भवान् समर्थस् तान् सर्वान् निहन्तुं नात्र संशयः ॥
निहन्तुम् अहम् अप्य् एकः समर्थः पुरुषोत्तम ॥
भवांस् तु कीर्तिमांल् लोके तद् यशस् त्वां गमिष्यति ॥
यशसा चाहम् अप्य् अर्थी तस्माद् असि मया वृतः ॥
सारथ्यं तु त्वया कार्यम् इति मे मानसं सदा ॥
चिररात्रेप्सितं कामं तद् भवान् कर्तुम् अर्हति ॥
वासुदेव उवाच
उपपन्नम् इदं पार्थ यत् स्पर्धेथा मया सह ॥
सारथ्यं ते करिष्यामि कामः संपद्यतां तव ॥

bhavāṃs tu kīrtimāṃl loke tad yaśas tvāṃ gamiṣyati ||
yaśasā cāham apy arthī tasmād asi mayā vṛtaḥ ||
sārathyaṃ tu tvayā kāryam iti me mānasaṃ sadā ||
cirarātrepsitaṃ kāmaṃ tad bhavān kartum arhati ||
vāsudeva uvāca
upapannam idaṃ pārtha yat spardhethā mayā saha ||
sārathyaṃ te kariṣyāmi kāmaḥ saṃpadyatāṃ tava ||
And then the royal son of Dhritarashtra went to Kritavarman. And Kritavarman gave him a contingent of troops numbering an akshauhini. And surrounded by this army, terrible to behold, the Kaurava advanced, gladdening his friends. And after Duryodhana had departed, Krishna, the Maker of the world, clad in yellow garments, addressed Kiritin with these words: 'For what reason have you chosen me, who will not fight at all?' To this Arjuna replied: 'I have no doubt that you are able to slay them all. I too, alone, am able to slay them, O best of men. But you are a renowned figure in the world, and that fame will follow you. I too seek fame, and therefore I have chosen you. I have always wished that you would drive my chariot.'
