वज्रम् अस्य क्षिपाम्य् अद्य स क्षिप्रं न भविष्यति ॥
शत्रुः प्रवृद्धो नोपेक्ष्यो दुर्बलो ऽपि बलीयसा ॥
शास्त्रबुद्ध्या विनिश्चित्य कृत्वा बुद्धिं वधे दृढाम् ॥
अथ वैश्वानरनिभं घोररूपं भयावहम् ॥
मुमोच वज्रं संक्रुद्धः शक्रस् त्रिशिरसं प्रति ॥
स पपात हतस् तेन वज्रेण दृढम् आहतः ॥
पर्वतस्येव शिखरं प्रणुन्नं मेदिनीतले ॥
तं तु वज्रहतं दृष्ट्वा शयानम् अचलोपमम् ॥
न शर्म लेभे देवेन्द्रो दीपितस् तस्य तेजसा ॥
हतो ऽपि दीप्ततेजाः स जीवन्न् इव च दृश्यते ॥
अभितस् तत्र तक्षाणं घटमानं शचीपतिः ॥
अपश्यद् अब्रवीच् चैनं सत्वरं पाकशासनः ॥
क्षिप्रं छिन्धि शिरांस्य् अस्य कुरुष्व वचनं मम ॥
vajram asya kṣipāmy adya sa kṣipraṃ na bhaviṣyati ||
śatruḥ pravṛddho nopekṣyo durbalo 'pi balīyasā ||
śāstrabuddhyā viniścitya kṛtvā buddhiṃ vadhe dṛḍhām ||
atha vaiśvānaranibhaṃ ghorarūpaṃ bhayāvaham ||
mumoca vajraṃ saṃkruddhaḥ śakras triśirasaṃ prati ||
sa papāta hatas tena vajreṇa dṛḍham āhataḥ ||
parvatasyeva śikharaṃ praṇunnaṃ medinītale ||
taṃ tu vajrahataṃ dṛṣṭvā śayānam acalopamam ||
na śarma lebhe devendro dīpitas tasya tejasā ||
hato 'pi dīptatejāḥ sa jīvann iva ca dṛśyate ||
abhitas tatra takṣāṇaṃ ghaṭamānaṃ śacīpatiḥ ||
apaśyad abravīc cainaṃ satvaraṃ pākaśāsanaḥ ||
kṣipraṃ chindhi śirāṃsy asya kuruṣva vacanaṃ mama ||
And thus, reflecting on the teachings set forth in the scriptures, he firmly resolved to slay this being. Then Indra, in fury, hurled his thunderbolt at the three-headed being, a weapon that appeared like fire, terrible to behold and inspiring dread. And, struck by that thunderbolt, he was slain and fell, as a dislodged mountain peak falls to the ground. And, seeing him slain by the stroke of the thunderbolt and lying vast as a hill, the chief of the gods found no peace and felt as though scorched by the radiant appearance of the dead being; for though slain, he retained a blazing and radiant look and seemed as though alive. And strangely, though lifeless, his heads seemed to live on as they lay low upon the field. And, greatly frightened by this radiance, Indra remained sunk in thought. And at that time, O great king, a carpenter with an axe upon his shoulder came into the forest and drew near the place where this being lay.
