译文

"Let the worlds see what power I possess and how mighty is the practice of austerity! Let this cruel, malicious lord of the gods also witness the same!" Having said this, that enraged man, renowned for his austerities, rinsed his mouth with water, made offerings to the fire, brought forth the terrible Vritra, and spoke to him, saying: "O destined slayer of Indra, grow mighty even through the power of my severe rites." And he asked: "Rising like the sun of doomsday, what shall I do?" "Kill Indra," came the answer. Then he departed for the celestial regions. And then a great battle broke out between Vritra and Indra, both blazing with fury, and a terrible battle ensued, O best of the Kuru race, and the heroic Vritra seized the lord of heaven, the performer of a hundred sacrifices.
