译文

The old king Dhritarashtra does not see his own duty; or, seeing it, out of greedy attachment to his son, he follows the counsel of that fool. The king stands by Suyodhana's opinion toward us, O Janardana. Greedy, he acts falsely, seeking what is pleasing to himself alone. What could be more grievous than this — that I cannot even provide for my mother or my friends, O Janardana? With the Kashis, the Chedis, the Panchalas, and the Matsyas, and with you yourself as our protector, O Madhusudana, I have asked for only five villages — Kushasthala, Vrikasthala, Asandi, Varanavata, and some fifth place besides, O Govinda.
