译文

We ourselves are not willing to give up our prosperity by any means that is just. If, in striving for it, death should come to us here, even that would be good. Yet our first choice, O Madhava, would be that we and they become at peace and equal, and that all of us attain prosperity together. But there is also this — the highest and utmost course, one that arises only from the end of dreadful deeds: that we slay the Kauravas and take their kingdoms for ourselves. As for those who might be enemies unconnected to us by kinship and unworthy of the noble, O Krishna, even they should not be needlessly slain — how much more so those who are our own kin, our helpers and elders in greatest number! To slay them would be a most grievous sin. What glory, indeed, is there in war?
