राक्षसं दुद्रुवुः सर्वे ग्रहाः पञ्च यथा रविम् ॥

यथा युगक्षये घोरे चन्द्रमाः पञ्चभिर् ग्रहैः ॥
प्रतिविन्ध्यस् ततो रक्षो बिभेद निशितैः शरैः ॥
सर्वपारशवैस् तूर्णम् अकुण्ठाग्रैर् महाबलः ॥
स तैर् भिन्नतनुत्राणः शुशुभे राक्षसोत्तमः ॥
मरीचिभिर् इवार्कस्य संस्यूतो जलदो महान् ॥
विषक्तैः स शरैश् चापि तपनीयपरिच्छदैः ॥
आर्श्यशृङ्गिर् बभौ राजन् दीप्तशृङ्ग इवाचलः ॥
ततस् ते भ्रातरः पञ्च राक्षसेन्द्रं महाहवे ॥
विव्यधुर् निशितैर् बाणैस् तपनीयविभूषितैः ॥
स निर्भिन्नः शरैर् घोरैर् भुजगैः कोपितैर् इव ॥
अलम्बुसो भृशं राजन् नागेन्द्र इव चुक्रुधे ॥
te tu kruddhā maheṣvāsā draupadeyāḥ prahāriṇaḥ ||
rākṣasaṃ dudruvuḥ sarve grahāḥ pañca yathā ravim ||
vīryavadbhis tatas tais tu pīḍito rākṣasottamaḥ ||
yathā yugakṣaye ghore candramāḥ pañcabhir grahaiḥ ||
prativindhyas tato rakṣo bibheda niśitaiḥ śaraiḥ ||
sarvapāraśavais tūrṇam akuṇṭhāgrair mahābalaḥ ||
sa tair bhinnatanutrāṇaḥ śuśubhe rākṣasottamaḥ ||
marīcibhir ivārkasya saṃsyūto jalado mahān ||
viṣaktaiḥ sa śaraiś cāpi tapanīyaparicchadaiḥ ||
ārśyaśṛṅgir babhau rājan dīptaśṛṅga ivācalaḥ ||
tatas te bhrātaraḥ pañca rākṣasendraṃ mahāhave ||
vivyadhur niśitair bāṇais tapanīyavibhūṣitaiḥ ||
sa nirbhinnaḥ śarair ghorair bhujagaiḥ kopitair iva ||
alambuso bhṛśaṃ rājan nāgendra iva cukrudhe ||
But the enraged great archers, the sons of Draupadi, warriors all, charged at the rakshasa like five planets converging upon the sun. Hard pressed by these valorous brothers, the best of rakshasas was like the moon surrounded by five planets at the dreadful end of the yuga. Then mighty Prativindhya swiftly pierced the rakshasa with sharp arrows, wholly of iron, with unblunted points. His armor pierced through by these, the best of rakshasas shone like a great cloud shot through with the sun's rays. With arrows adorned with gold lodged in him, Arshyashringi blazed, O king, like a mountain with a blazing peak. Then these five brothers, in the great battle, pierced the lord of the rakshasas with sharp arrows adorned with gold. Transfixed by these dreadful arrows, as if by enraged serpents, Alambusha, O king, grew fiercely wrathful, like a mighty elephant.'
